図書館戦争 [Toshokan Sensou] (Library War)
This is a Political/War drama. In this era of Japan a law was created called the Media Cleansing Act to 'regulate unwanted messages that presented a bad influence to society.' I thought of it this way: The Patriot Act gone super wrong; it hinders the freedom of expression. The Library Freedom Act was created to counter the Cleansing Act; in turn, the Libraries formed militias to defend expression through literature. Over 30 years have passed since these laws were enacted and the tension has escalated to all out war.
The Library Freedom emblem.
Ep1:
In this episode we learn enough to know whats going on. It intros and follows our main character Kasahara Iku:
Ep2:
Episode two Starts during Kasa's first day of training in the elite Library Task Force branch of the Librarian Military. She earns a nickname from it:
An attack on the main library she works at occurs and the task force defends itself.
Ep3:
We pick up where episode two left off. More info on the 'Nightmare of Hino" incident is given. A private museum is being shutdown. The task force goes out to secure the documents before the Media Cleansing Committee can destroy important information. All though the entire force is being prepared for full scale battle, Kara is sent alone to protect a dignitary.
I at first thought WTF Library Wars? But after watching it I found I'll enjoy it. I like Political/War dramas like Patlabor and Ghost in the Shell. This has a good premise; many times in history literature has been destroyed to control the masses as a form of oppression. A couple quotes I learned long ago:
Ignorance is self-oppression.
The more you know, the more you know you don't know.Tho I can't remember where I learned the ignorance quote... I might have made that one up and just not remembered :P. The more you know quote is from a history teacher I had in middle school. He was a very tall, very burly, very white, very proud Mormon, that was very proud to have gone to BYU... and had some scary affection toward Disney & Mickey Mouse.
